David Sherrard, VP Developments, Iona Energy
David is a 30 year upstream technical manager. He graduated from Cambridge University with a B.A. in Engineering Science and later earned a M.Eng. degree in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh. Major company experience was gained in Europe and North America with Chevron and BP. David was an SPE distinguished lecturer in this period, speaking on the then ground breaking application of horizontal wells at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. He was subsequently development manager at the Wytch Farm oilfield in England where world record step out horizontal wells were again the transforming technology to unlock reserves.
David was latterly responsible for the management of a portfolio of Joint Venture gas field operations in the UK Southern North Sea covering pre-development acreage, producing fields, pipelines and terminals. Responsible for all technical and commercial activity underpinning 200 MMscf/d of gas production with an annual operating budget of circa £50MM.
In the service sector David had Board responsibility for the growth and transformation of a $5 million subsurface consultancy (RML) into a $100 million per annum broad based service provider (Senergy) offering high end professional advice covering well operations and a full compliment of technical advisory services. Specific responsibilities included staff recruitment and management from 20 to 400 people, client engagement, and overall technical direction of the subsurface business. Specific technical projects include numerous reserve valuations as a recognised Reservoir Auditor, Project Manager for a range of technical studies and Project Director for the Beauly oil field sub-sea development using innovative contracting strategies. Prior to joining Iona David was International Director for Senergy with remit to rationalise international offices and build regional management teams in the Middle East and Asia Pacific. In this period he was based in Abu Dhabi and, later, in Singapore.
Dave is a Fellow of the Engineering Institute and is a Chartered Petroleum Engineer. He joined Iona at the end of 2010.
Mr. Sherrard is also a Member of the Health, Safety and Environment Committee.
